Dr. Piret Paal was born in Miiaste, Estonia in 1977. She received the Bachelor and MSc degree in linguistics and ethnology from the University of Tartu, Estonia in 2000 and 2004 respectively. She received the PhD in Cultural Studies, from the University of Helsinki, Finland in 2011. Since 2010 she has been working as a researcher in palliative and hospice care at the Ludwig-Maximilian’s University in Munich and in the Hospice Care Da Sein in Germany. Since September 2017 she works as a facilitator for WHO Collaborating Centre at the Paracelsus Medical University in Salzburg, Austria. Her research interests involve patient centered care, palliative care education, and spiritual care. She is the author and coauthor of more than 20 peer reviewed papers, numerous scientific proceedings, and book chapters. She has published and edited 4 books. Her current h-index is 5. Dr. Paal has been a member of European Association for Palliative Care since 2011. Since then she has been leading the educational subgroup on spiritual care education of Spiritual Care Taskforce. Recently she was invited to join the palliative care education reference group at the EAPC.
